The Paris Traveler

If you want to be seen or to people watch while you’re in Paris, then you can skip the Dans Le Noir experience.  If you want a new kind of dining experience, then try this restaurant in the 4th Arrond.   You will literally be in the dark!  The idea is interesting to say the least. 

As for the decor, hmm, I really can’t say.  Is the chef at all concerned about presentation when he sends out your food?  I don’t know, but don’t worry, you won’t see a thing! Your other senses, however, will be heightened as you begin to eavesdrop on the people around you, although you may not make heads or tails of what is being said with all the cacophony going on.  You will, however, feel your knee bump a stranger’s leg in this tightly squeezed enviroment and your taste buds will let you know that the cuisine in this restaurant in somewhat mediocre. 

It wouldn’t be so bad if prices were a bit more reasonable.  There are two menus to choose from:  30 € gives you an appetizer and a main course or the main course and dessert, while the 39 € menu gives you all three.  You can either choose what you want to eat, or if you happen to be more daring, you can opt for the surprise menu.  Yes, you don’t know what you’re eating until you either guess, or you’re told afterwards!  With a bottle of wine and an aperitif before the meal, you’re looking at well over 100 € for two.

Bottom line, you’re not paying for a gastronomical experience in a luxury setting; you’re paying for an unusual experience that many find worth doing at least once.
