Men’s Fashion in Paris
Antoine Daguin could be modeling down the runway in all the fashion shows here in Paris if he wanted to (and he occasionally does), but his real passion is in designing men’s fashion. If other designers are as creative as Antoine, then we have nothing to worry about! Fashion is still alive and well in Paris! No surprise that this very “in style” guy has so much talent, he’s surrounded by it. His father who’s retired was a well-known journalist and his mother is a sought after film editor. His aunt, uncle, and cousin are all in the film industry as well. (I’ll be talking more about his cousin, Martin Boumendil, who composes musical scores in an upcoming post.)
I asked Antoine why he didn’t design for women, afterall there’s so much more one can do with women’s styles. I mean, where can a designer go with men’s fashion that hasn’t been done before? You can’t put in a third pant leg, can you?! (I asked him this before I saw his designs!) Antoine remarked, “Precisely, that’s the challenge!” According to him, it’s men’s styles that need to have a new vision. It’s quite evident when viewing many of his designs that there’s a Japanese samurai influence going on, but I find it has an occidental wearability. The hues are somber, but with just a flash of color to offset the lines. The silhouettes are long and lean with a conformity that is pleasing to the eye.
He truly is the best advertisement for his own clothes. Tall, thin and handsome, he looks good in everything! Is it any wonder when he walks down the streets in Paris he is often stopped by people asking him where he bought his clothes! What does he see for himself in the near future? He would love to go to Hollywood (nope, not New York!) and design not only for the film industry (As I said, it runs in the family!), but also for the celebrities out there! I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about him!
Antoine and I when we came out of Polly Magoo’s in Neuilly after lunch. The jacket he has on is one of his creations and by the time we got to his car, several yards away, he was stopped twice by people asking him where he bought it!
