La Fête de l’Humanité!
This year the Fête de l’Humanité takes place the 14, 15, and 16th of September at the Parc de la Courneuve, and like other years has a list of celebrities and activities all lined up for this three day affair! Last year there were more than a half a million people who attended, 550 stands, over 200 authors, concerts, expos, debats, and so much more.
The festivities are organized and sponsered by the newspaper L’Humanité which is partisan to the Communist Party in France. Many of those in attendance, however, are there for the activities, and especially the concerts, and have no particular preference to any political party. In other words,…. they’re just there to party! This year there will be 23 concerts in all during the three day event starting in the afternoon going on into the evening with Iggy Pop playing on the 15th and Renaud closing out the concert series on the 16th.
In case you don’t know who Renaud is, he’s the equivalent to Bob Dylan. He’s been singing songs of protest and revolution, and his music is synonymous with social and political commentaries against the establishment since the 1970’s.
So, for those of you looking for something to do this week-end. You will not be alone if you decide to go to the Fête de l’ Humanité! The Parc de la Courneuve is in the northeastern suburb of Paris. For more information on activities, prices, transportation and such, check out their website.
