I Ride My Bike, I Roller-skate, Don’t Drive No Car….
There’s lots of ways to get around Paris–traditionally walking is good, using the metro and walking is good or taking the bus and walking is good too. Even a combination of the three–which I always try to avoid–is not as good, but works.
If, however, you are a bit more adventurous and want to make transportation an event, I have a few ways that will allow you to get a feel for the lay of the land, see the sights and have a good story to tell back home.
On a beautiful, sunny day I really can’t think of a better thing to do than ride a bike around Paris. Fat Tire Bike Tours are designed to help you do just that. With a meeting point underneath the Eiffel Tower, you and your new friends from all over the world get to spend the next 4 hours pedaling around town with a knowledgeable guide taking you to all the sights. From your starting point, you wind your way to Napoleon’s Tomb, the Louvre, Tuilleries and certainly whatever else you happen to ride by. Participants have way to much fun on these tours and I am sure you will too.
Similar but different, would be the Segway Tour. This follows a similar route to the bike tour but you ride, glide, scoot–what are you doing, segwaying?–around. The best part about this tour is not being on it and watching first time Segwayers get a feel for their new set of wheels. I could easily kill myself or someone else if I tried this but I think you should have at it! I’ll watch.
Finally, for the really brave or truly crazy, you can rent this snazzy scooter to get yourself around town. There are thousands of them on the road. You get to use the bus lane (as do bike riders which makes people on the bus insane) and you can make a new lane for yourself by going in between cars at a top speed of 65mph. If you haven’t tried this before, there is no telling what kind of interesting story you can take back home with you.

everytime I see a Segway, i think about Jobe from Arrested Development. I miss that show.
Man, riding around paris on a bike tour would be sweet. I have rode around boston on a similar type of a tour, though mine was self guided. hehe
I’m going to paris sometime later this year, I can’t wait to ride one of those scooters.
Cheers
