Salon du Livres

Should you be lucky enough to be in Paris from the 14th to 19th of March you have to promise that you will, for me, since I won’t be there, go to the Salon du Livres. This is a book lover’s paradise. It is a French trade show for publishers of all sorts of books: fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, books that make great gifts, bookplates, stamps…..you name it. If it has something to to with books, you will find it here. One teensy problem–it is all in French.
But it doesn’t matter. (I am pursing my lips and shrugging my shoulders right now like the French do when something is not their problem!) You bring the books home with you and put them on your coffee table. You look at them for awhile. Then you might get the urge to know what words of wisdom or magnificent love story lies within the beautiful binding. So you take French lessons in order to read them and start watching French movies without sub-titles and you understand what they are about which is next to impossible. Then you decide it is time to rent a little pied-a-terre in Paris and start wearing a beret and buy a Rhodia or Clarefontaine notebook depending on how white you want your paper and sit at Deux Magots or Café de Flore all day and dabble in writing your own piece of brilliant fiction that gets published by a company in France and next year you will be a featured speaker at Salon du Livres!!! …….It could happen you know!
So now you have to go. Your future is waiting.
