Cook’n With Class

Cook’n With Class

These last few days I have been an advocate of taking care of our planet (which is a daily practice of mine on an individual basis) and have introduced you to new bloggers here at b5media that will open up new parts of the world for all of us.  Both important to know about but…….today, we are back in Paris.   And that is a great big YEAH as far as I’m concerned.

Previously, I have mentioned that I love to cook and what better place to take some classes and learn new skills than in this epicurien’s dream city.  Thinking …read more

Welcome To Our World

Welcome To Our World

We are one big happy family here at b5media and as such, support one another in our daily writing efforts.  I read fellow travel bloggers sites as well as those of people in areas that I wouldn’t normally gravitate to just to learn something new and different.  Even though we live literally all over the world and will probably never actually “meet” there is truly a connection between us.  It’s a lot of fun, I must say. With that in mind, I need to bring you up to speed regarding the newest additions to our Travel Channel.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a world wide attempt to create awareness and understanding on how global warming is affecting our planet and what we can do about it.  Cities around the world are turning off their lights for one hour this evening in a collective effort to save energy and symbolically get nations, communities and individuals to participate, not only tonight, but on a daily basis.  One hour may not seem like much but can make an incredible difference in greenhouse reduction as well as waking us up to what needs to be done.  The arguement, “but what can one person …read more

Fleur-de-lys, Symbol of France and Me

Fleur-de-lys, Symbol of France and Me

The fleur-de-lys, translated as the “flower of the lily”, is a legendary symbol of France. Initially,  it served as a decorative element and can be found as far back as Mesopotamia.  Over time, it came to to represent royalty (not specific to France) signifying perfection, light and life.  It appears in heraldry (coats of arms), as well as architecture, art, decorative objects and jewelry.  I, in my infinite craziness have taken this symbol one step further.

When getting ready to leave France after my year of personal indulgence, I thought, “What can I take home with me that I would have …read more

Say It Isn’t So

Say It Isn’t So

Looks weird, doesn’t it?  A space age Eiffel Tower?  Well, yes and no.  This is the winning entry submitted by the French architecture firm, Serero, that will be restructuring the observation deck on the tower’s third level in celebration of its 120th anniversary next year.

The addition will not require any permanent modification of the tower (thank God), but will double the capacity of the observation deck to better accomodate the more than 7 million visitors estimated to visit it.  The addition will be cantilevered, similar to how a wing is attached to a plane with a lightweight carbon fiber type …read more

Boutiques de Musees

Boutiques de Musees

The museums of Paris have what I would consider some of the best shopping around.  Their gift shops are filled with amazing goodies–reproduction jewelry from their collections, scarves, books dedicated to specific exhibits and even the tried and true Mona Lisa mouse pad.  Even their cheesy attempts at consumerism come out looking not so bad! For a price, (the exchange sucks!) you too can get a hold of some of these fun things right from the comfort of your living room.  Boutiques de Musees is a site that has gathered the best from all the individual gift shops and put them in …read more

Where In The World Am I?

Where In The World Am I?

I am spending way too much time trying to figure out where I found this place which I want to send you all to but I was busy talking on the phone, taking pictures, solving family dilemmas and forgot to make note of where I was exactly.  Plus it was dusk and rainy and time to find shelter and a glass of wine.  So, if any of you can identify where this wonderful shop of curiosities is, I would be grateful.  I do know that it is in the 6th, on a street that is interrupted by a tiny traffic …read more

Cuisine de Bar

Cuisine de Bar

This very simple storefront happens to be one of the best places to stop for a simple, satisfying, yummy meal.  Cuisine de Bar on rue Cherche-Midi in the 6th is what we in the states might consider something of a diner but not.  It consists of a bar, used only for staff, that displays its wine selection and pre-bowled salads stacked up, only waiting for the word to be dressed and served alongside a delicious open-faced “tarte” made with the world famous “Poilâne” bread.  With-in minutes–which is weird for Paris, you will be served a piping hot toasted sandwich that …read more

Dou You Bisou?

Dou You Bisou?

The ritual of a greeting between two people should be an uncomplicated, stress-free expression of acknowledging one another, should it not?  I either kiss the person I am greeting or hug them or shake their hand, depending on our relationship.  If I have just met you and really like you, you might be a bit uncomfortable since I am a bit touchy-feely and would want to hug you right out of the gate.
The first week that my daughter and I set up camp in Paris, our landlord picked us up to take us shopping for a DVD player.  We …read more
