Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Today is Tavern Day which for many of you will just be Tuesday. Either you don’t care or that little place you stop in at on the way home for a pint and fun chitchat is so ingrained in your life that really, things would not be the same without it and of course there should be a day to celebrate its existence (think the sitcom Cheers).

This is the Highlander, a cozy, Scottish pub on rue de Nevers near the Pont Neuf.  It looks a bit scary–probably hoping to keep the riff raff at bay ;-)  but once inside, the feeling is warm and welcoming.  Like most pubs, they are big on football, rugby, beer and all that goes with that.

Their website lists games being televised so you can cheer your team on to victory or drown your sorrows over a loss in your beer. You can dance the night away which would be right up my alley or for those of you looking to be the next “Idol” star, there is open mic night every Wednesday.  Honestly, this place does it all.  Check it out!
