A Rite of Passage: Part Deux

I am not in Paris right now….for good reason.  Years ago, the planets aligned themselves in such a way so that in the year 2008, I would have three daughters all graduating from high school or college (and going to prom) within a span of three weeks.  This weekend, my amazing, fantastic, loving, creative, kind-hearted daughters…the list of superlatives is endless, Taylor and Lindsay,  are graduating from the University of Notre Dame.  Yesterday kicked off the 3 day graduation extravaganza where family members travel from miles around to descend upon the beautiful campus grounds and are required to attend numerous receptions, ceremonies, pre and post ceremonies for the ceremonies, baccalaureate mass and finally the culminating cap and gown event held on Sunday.  It is a heady, busy week-end.

Since we live 4 miles from the campus (my husband worked there for 12 years) I offered to host a little get together for my girls and their friends and family  (if anyone was interested in doing something like that), on Friday night.  Email invites went out a month ago and guess what?  Everyone thought that was an absolutely fabulous idea and the Poulins were hosts to (final count) 176 for dinner last night.  As I write that, the effects of the evening are hitting this old body a bit harder but it was so worth it.  My younger daughter (prom girl from last week) stepped up and was an awesome sidekick to get all those people fed.  I taught her how to uncork a bottle of wine so she could replenish the bar, my hubby was consummate greeter and drink getter and once the food was out and people were eating, I poured myself a glass of wine and joined the party!

Check out this beautiful group of kids….all of them are off to do amazing things that just overwhelm me.  If they are any indication of our future, we are in good hands.

Linds and Tay….I could not possibly love you more and am so very, very proud!  You’re the best!
