Beauty in the Ear of the Beholder

by Kim on January 8th, 2008

My family decided that I needed to be brought up to speed as far as gadgets go and gave me this cute little unit for Christmas.

It was meant to replace the outdated dinosaur I have been using that no longer is recognized by current technology.  Today, I (we, being my daughters and I) decided it was ipod update day and we spent the better part of the afternoon making the big switch. While we were at it, we realized that all of us had a lot of French music that we enjoyed and I thought…….great blog topic!!!  Good French music and where to find it.

This would be Emmanuel Moire.  And no, I did not pick him because he is……hmmm, French ;-)!  We like him because he can really sing–which a lot of French artists can’t do.  They sort of  ”talk-sing” which even I can do in a really bad way.   This guy really is talented.  And when you listen to a great voice singing in French it just sounds that much better!

This is a weird one.  Carla Bruni is Italien but sings in French and is pretty popular.  Actually, she is even more popular these last few weeks as she is dating the French president, Nicholas Sarkozy and word is that they are planning a February wedding.  (Just for those not in the know, President Sarkozy’s divorce was made final in late October, he met Ms Bruni in November and….voila!  I think this story might be too much even for the French).  Anyway, she has a very unique voice (sultry talk-sing in a good way) and I would recommend her CD. Then there are others like:

I have tried to link you to as many as I could.  Some aren’t available in the U.S.  If you would like to spend some time looking for music while in Paris you need to go to…..

  •  Virgin Megastore–52-60 Ave. des Champs Elysées,  Metro:  Franklin Roosevelt
  • Virgin Louvre–Galerie du Carrousel du Louvre,  Metro:  Palais-Royal-Musee du Louvre
  • FNAC–136, Rue Rennes,  Metro:  Montparnasse
  • FNAC–74, Ave. des Champs Elsyées,  Metro:  Champs Elysées-Clemenceau

These are great big places with tons of music and little things that let you listen to the music and lots of books, magazines, journals……it goes on and on.

Great post and congrats on the iPod! I love my MP3 player (which is already outdated and it’s only a year old) and wouldn’t trade it for anything!

I have to agree about the singers you picked. Sometimes music sounds better just because it’s in a different language. The fact that Emmanuel is extremely dishy doesn’t hurt either!
