But Tell Me, How Do You Really Feel?

Walking through the Tuileries gardens is a part of each day that I spend in Paris. I plan my route so that I can enjoy all it has to offer either on my way to where I am going, on my return or both. That’s how much I enjoy being here. It is always crowded, but especially so on weekends when residents and tourists literally “promenade” the gravelly through fare. I love trying to picture what it must have been like at the turn of the century, much like the movie “Gigi” with carriages, and picnics and flirtations. All those wonderful things that have been lost to a different time. The beauty of the Tuileries is that it can still take you there if you are willing to go.
Lately, I have been drawn to sculpture–a genre that prior to now has done little for me. Having spent a long afternoon in the Louvre’s sculpture wing and not allowing myself to be drawn to any other types of work, I have become a huge fan. To see some of the works up close and try to begin to understand how one manipulates marble to become gauzy fabric, is beyond me. An appreciation for sculpture will be most helpful as you wind your way through Paris: you will see it everywhere. The Tuileries has some of my personal favorites.

This guy just tugs at my heartstrings every time I see him. I can’t help but feel he is thinking, “I am so ashamed. I sit here day in and day out with pigeons on my head and I can do nothing.” Frustration, “stuckness”? It’s all there.

An ancient alpha male looks as though he is going to crush that pigeon with his bare hands and grill him for lunch. I’m sensing some anger going on here. At least he is letting it out!

“Yes, I know there’s a pigeon on my head and I am quite fine with that.” Denial, repressed emotionally, perhaps?

This is Diana, goddess of the hunt. I never saw one sitting on her pretty head. No one would dare. She’d turn you into a gnat or worse!
