Cuisine de Bar

 This very simple storefront happens to be one of the best places to stop for a simple, satisfying, yummy meal.  Cuisine de Bar on rue Cherche-Midi in the 6th is what we in the states might consider something of a diner but not.  It consists of a bar, used only for staff, that displays its wine selection and pre-bowled salads stacked up, only waiting for the word to be dressed and served alongside a delicious open-faced “tarte” made with the world famous “Poilâne” bread.  With-in minutes–which is weird for Paris, you will be served a piping hot toasted sandwich that rivals anything I have ever had.  The  signature bread, which is sold in its sister store 2 doors down, is a crusty sour dough that is topped with salmon, foie gras, chicken, sliced meats–all sorts of things and then broiled to perfection.  I am thinking that even finicky eaters, young and old alike, will find something to enjoy here.  

Be sure to visit Poilâne’s very fun website.  The French do entertaining things with their sites.  This one even gives you recipe ideas for how to create your own “tarte” in the comfort of your home.  Not quite the same as being there, I know!
