Dollar Weakens to $1.50 to the Euro
Oh, yuck! Not the headline you want to read when you happen to be in a country that has the Euro as its currency. I have been watching it steadily go up the entire time I’ve been here but try not to think about it too much. Not being very good in math has helped me stay in denial since I don’t convert things quickly and my credit card has already been swiped by the time I’ve worked the numbers in my head. Since I am running out of room in my suitcase as well, shopping is officially over. But no matter what the exchange is, one must eat. So today, my mission was to check off one more item on my “Paris to-do” list and that I did.

Liza is a restaurant that was reviewed in the New York Times travel section awhile back and I bookmarked it to make sure that I had a meal there. It is off the beaten track, located in the 2e, near the former stock exchange building, but well worth the search. The food could be called up-scale Lebanese, delicious mezze dishes of the day that come delivered in beautful silver trays. The selection today consisted of a mint salad, avocado and shrimp, fried eggplant with lightly battered white fish and artichoke “caviar”. So, so good. There is a complete menu as well and all the food coming out looked delicious. Dessert was spectacular–their version of “pain perdu”. Small pieces of a dense pita bread had been dipped in egg and fried, served with sauteed bananas and cinnamon ice cream. I can only say, wow!
The decor is light and airy, done in white and turquiose, and although I have never been to Lebanon, I certainly felt transported. Funky music in the background and a really friendly staff made the entire experience wonderful. I would certainly tell you to make the effort to dine here.
Having said that, you might need to know that my dessert, which I would order again in a second, was 9€, or $13.60 in crazy American dollars. So, really, I didn’t save all that much today but at least don’t have to find room in my suitcase!
