The Paris Traveler

Ducasse’s Domaine

by Kim on December 23rd, 2007

Alain Ducasse Clearly a master of the universe where cuisine is concerned, Alain Ducasse can add the Eiffel Tower to a long list of locations that bear his stamp of culinary artistry.

On Saturday, he launched the refurbished Jules Verne restaurant, located in the second level of The Eiffel Tower. Long a tradition for both Parisiens and tourists, it had lost its way in the sea of haute cuisine and if you asked a local, they would purse their lips, very French-like and tell you it wasn’t a necessary stop on a tourist’s dining tour.

Monsieur Ducasse plans to change all that.  He would like to see it become a “shop window” for French cuisine but does not intend to have it become as luxurious as hisflagship restaurants at the Plaza Athénée in Paris or Louis XV in Monaco

A lunch menu costs 75 euros ($107 with the crazy exchange rate) and dinner might cost 155 to 170 euros ($222 to $244). I don’t know about you but that is still fairly fancy for my pocket book. However,  I know that I too will scale the heights to gastronomic heaven!
