Grilled Cheese with Caviar, Anyone?

This is Le Comptoir, one of the most talked about and visited and been turned away from restaurants in Paris. And although I am not a fan of making my way to where everyone else feels the need to be, I would highly recommend making every effort possible to get your rear end seated in one of those little café chairs and settle in for a remarkable meal.

Reservations are difficult to come by, but if you are flexible and don’t mind eating at odd times, you can grab a table when the rush isn’t on. I prefer to eat outside and usually try to get there at the tail end of lunch, say 2:00 or 2:30. Since noon is early for lunch in Paris, you might be able to get a table earlier as well. Dinner–you are probably going to need a reservation. The food is comfort but creative–grilled cheese literally stuffed with caviar or a salad with shaved fois gras. I am still mystified as to how one shaves fois gras without making an absolute mess, but that is the artistry you are paying for to have chef Yves Camdeborde do his culinary thing that he does so well.
