Le Chant des Voyelles

Le Chant des VoyellesThe problem with a lot of restaurants is that you may go one time and have a great experience and then you go again some time later and you’re disappointed. The reasons may vary in so many ways; from the restaurant being sold and you have new owners, to the chef leaving and taking all his great recipes with him. That happened to me just before the summer holidays. We took a bunch of friends to a restaurant that we loved, and you guessed it, not only were there new owners, the chef was also new and he didn’t have the same great recipes that the old one had! We won’t be going there again any time soon, but enough about that, I’m here to talk about le Chant des Voyelles!

Le Chant des VoyellesI tend not to go to restaurants situated in touristy places, but sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised by a restaurant that is inexpensive and, yes, in a touristy place, I was. If you happen to be near Beaubourg (the Pompidou Center) or Chatelet/Les Halles and want a nice little restaurant in the quartier then stop by Le Chant des Voyelles.

Le Chant des VoyellesThe service is very friendly and the food good considering the price. (Menu: appetizer and main course - 12,50 €. Their zucchini tarte and the pork filet mignon were good. Is it any wonder that there is a loyal clientele?! As a matter of fact the gay community considers this restaurant as one of their own, but they do welcome everyone!

Le Chant des VoyellesThe bar gets noisy as the evening progresses and there’s a dining area downstairs in a cave-like medieval, but somewhat claustrophobic, atmosphere. No this isn’t the restaurant to go to if you’re looking for a fine dining experience to say the least, but if you’re looking for an okay meal in a friendly atmosphere at a reasonable price, then this is the place!

I’ve got 3 other really nice restaurants for you:
La Cordonniere (1st), L’Auberge Bressane (7th) and our favorite Au Petit Tonneau (7th). When ever my husband and I come to Paris we have our first and last meal here. Tell me what you think.
