Lemon Tarts at LaDurée
Okay, so I have a sweet tooth, I’ll admit it, and Ladurée has been satisfying the sweet tooth of Parisians since 1862 and has some of the best pastries around. They’re not only known for their tartes aux citrons, which happens to be my favorite, they’re also known for their macaroons, religieuses, millefeuilles, and other decadent desserts.
Anyone who knows me knows I love a good lemon tart; and I have spent years sampling them all over Paris! No surprise then that I can just look at a tart and can tell you if it’ll be good, or not. It was a process of trial and error and I now consider myself a connoisseur of lemon tarts. (If I could just find a job using my expertise!)
One of the best places in Paris to buy a lemon tart is at Ladurée. Naturally then, I too my mom and a friend’s mom to have tea and lemon tarts at Ladurée on the Champs Elysées. We took the elevator up to the first floor. (It’s well appreciated when both ladies are in their eighties.)
There are several rooms to choose from, and the entire upper level is non-smoking. The decor is very Vieux Paris, smokey mirrors and old style banquettes, which suited Hugette and my mother just fine. The clientele is eclectic with young and old rubbing elbows, which just goes to show you’re never too young or too old to apprecaite good pastries.
Although there were so many different things on the menu to choose from, the three of us chose the lemon tarts, of course. The buttery crust had a nice firm texture to hold in all the lemon filling, and one bite told you the zingy tartness was just perfect. Mmm!

If you’re on a budget, you may decide to opt for a tartelette to go at the counter for 3.60 €. The price for the three of us having tea, and lemon tarts was over $40. It was worth every penny, but not a tea-time tradition that I would get into the habit of doing everyday, to say the least.
You can visit their website at Laduree and feast your eyes on some of their superb pastries.

If you happen to be in Creully in Normandy, or just passing through, be sure to stop in at the Hostellerie Saint Martin. Chef Alain Legrand is not only a wonderful chef; he also makes the best lemon tarts in Normandy! Just one bite and you’ll be swooning and thanking your lucky stars that you did stop. You can tell him I sent you! (I’ll write more about him and his medieval hotel and restaurant later.)
