The Paris Traveler

Rue des Grands Augustins

by Kim on February 18th, 2008

I thought you should feel as though you are here with me so I am putting up some photos of the street that I am staying on.  Located in the 6e arrondissement, it is centrally located to practically everything–Notre Dame, St-Germain-des Pres shopping area, the Louvre and Tuilleries is in walking distance as well.  I am right between two metro stops on the 4 line if you are familiar with that–Odeon and Saint Michel.

This is why many people feel they need sneakers or some other type of comfy shoe while touring Paris.  Not me, of course.  Today I traversed the city as I always do–in my platform heel boots.  Yes, an exercise in stupidity, I know!  You can’t take the heels out of this victim of the 80’s.

This is outside my window.  I am staying at 15.  Jacques Cagna is a cozy little restaurant.

A little orange tree action on my neighbor’s balcony.

This is where Picasso painted his work Guernica, an immense mural done in black and white depicting the bombing of Guernica, Spain during the Spanish Civil War.

It is also the setting of a short story by Balzac, The Unknown Masterpiece, set in the studio of an aging artist on rue des Grands Augustins.

So there’s just a little taste of what I get to see all day.  I worked very hard at getting over my photo-taking phobia and took more pictures this afternoon than I have taken in the past 20 years.  Had to call home to figure out how to use the zoom on my camera, but once I got that figured out, I was a maniac.  I can’t wait to post some of the others.  Another day!

Dear Kim, I hope you are having an amazing time in Paris, and taking lots of pictures….you can do it! Tell me, I’m looking to stay in the Saint-Germain area in July and was wondering if you could suggest any hotels in the area. What hotel are you staying in right now? I’d really appreciate your input. Merci!

I have my eyes open to all sorts of hotels in this area. What are you looking for and maybe I can direct you. There are so many to pick from!

I’d like to stay close to the Blvd. Saint-Germain, I don’t really care if breakfast is included in the room rate because I like going to different cafes for breakfast. I’m looking for a single room for around 150Euro, A/C if possible. I’d appreciate anything you can suggest.
