Le Pique-Nique de la République

Le Pique-Nique de la République

As the countdown to Bastille Day approaches, there are all sorts of activities planned. The neighborhood firemen’s dances are held every year on the 13th and 14th of July and are tons of fun. (More about them tomorrow!) This year for the second year, however, a gigantic picnic is planned on the 13th at the Parc de Bercy.
Everyone is invited to bring their own food and drinks, and to share in a convivial evening of fun, food and music starting at 18h. The idea is to get people of all ages, races, religions, and social backgrounds to share in a meal together, …read more

Festival de l’Oh! (Eau)

Looking for something to do near the water now that summer is here and best of all it’s free? Then join the festivites this week-end in either Paris or Val-de-Marne with the Water Festival. This year’s guest of honor is the Saint-Laurent River in Quebec, Canada. Festivites take place on June 30 and July 1st between Port de Bercy and the passerelle Simon de Beauvoir in Paris 12e and 13e as well as in the nearby town of Val-de-Marne.
Music, dance, theater (six barges have been transformed into stages) and more are all on the agenda during these two days of entertainment …read more

Barbra Streisand at Bercy

Barbra Streisand at Bercy

Awhile back, I wrote that Barbra Streisand would be appearing at Bercy in June. Well, the date is fast approaching (June 26) and rather than ticket prices going up, or being sold out; they have actually come down! It seems that Europeans will not dish out the dough for BS!
Babs was asking, (if my memory serves right), over 1500 € for the best seats in the house and 500 € for the worst, but don’t quote me, I am known to forget from one minute to the next what I just said! Back to Streisand, afterall this is her first …read more

Bercy Village

Bercy Village

I found some great bargains at the shops in Bercy Village. This is a walking area full of boutiques, restaurants, pubs and a multi-plex movie theater not far from the Palais Omnisport and across from the Parc de Bercy. At one time this was the largest wine market in the world and the destination for wine coming in from the south of France.
The warehouses that were converted into specialty stores has something for just about everyone. It was fun going from shop to shop, tasting the Mediterranean olive oils and other goodies at Oliviers …read more

Michel Polnareff at Bercy

Michel Polnareff at Bercy

Some of the best concerts I’ve ever been to have been at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in the 12th arrondissement. A few of the top names appearing in concert in May and June 2007 are: Beyonce, Indochine, Patrick Bruel, Marilyn Manson, The Who, and Aerosmith.
My pick, however, is Michel Polnareff, one of the most interesting and enigmatic entertainers of his time. With much controversy and scandals in the 60s and early 70s, Polnareff left France in 1973, but lost none of his faithful fans. Throughout the years and much of his career, Polnareff remained exiled in California, but his …read more
