The Paris Traveler

Previously, I have mentioned Palais Royal, my most favorite spot in Paris, along with Concorde, the Tuileries, Jardin du Luxembourg…..maybe I should just go with, all of PARIS is my favorite spot!  I don’t think anyone who knows me would argue with that.
Now that I got that off my chest, back to Palais Royal…and Le Prince Jardinier, a garden shop that brings “haute” to all things green thumb-ish. When people ask me what part of Paris is the best to stay in, my answer is always the same.  The Latin Quarter, of course!  (And no, it’s not a Latino neighborhood!  I’ve been asked that, so don’t laugh!) The Quartier Latin got its name hundreds of years ago when Latin was an official language and because many of the schools and universities in Paris were in this area, among them the Sorbonne which was established in 1253.  Classes were taught exclusively in Latin and used among students and academicians; thus the name Latin Quarter.

When we first fall in love, that excitement, that spark, which evokes so many feelings in us nevertheless fades over time, but for some reason the magic seems to burn and to linger on awhile longer in Paris.

Tired of doing the touristy things in Paris? Tired of sitting on the hard chairs at the Luxembourg and Tuileries Gardens and not be able to walk or sit on the grass? Or are you just plain tired of the hustle and bustle now that you’ve been in the City of Lights for awhile?

The Travel Channel at b5media has another theme day. Our mission:  write your best article on, or about, the best of something.  Well when you’re talking about Paris, trying to pick the best of anything is like asking a parent, “Which child do you love best?”

I love the Luxembourg Gardens and I love Lalique, so it was a nice surprise when a friend and I were walking through the Gardens and happened upon an exhibit by René Lalique at the Musée du Luxembourg. Lalique is known as the inventor of modern jewelry and was very influential in the Art Nouveau style during the Belle Epoque.
