La Nuit du Feu 2008

La Nuit du Feu 2008

If you are a regular reader of The Paris Traveler, then you know that there is a special place in my heart for the gendarmes (police officers) that one finds keeping the streets of Paris safe for citizens and tourists alike.  I say a special place, because I do believe, aside from being model citizens themselves-we hope-their membership includes some of the handsomest Frenchmen I have laid eyes on!!  My daughters would be in complete agreement with me on this one.
Having said that, I must add that although my contact with pompiers in Paris (firefighters) was less frequent, they …read more

Le Moulin de la Galette

Le Moulin de la Galette

Back in the 18th Century Montmartre was filled with more than thirty windmills. Today, however, only two are left. (And no, I’m not talking about the Moulin Rouge in Pigalle!) The Blute-fin and the Radet make up the Moulin de la Galette which has been immortilized by some of the most famous artists in the world, Van Gogh and Picasso to name two!
Renoir’s famous painting of the Bal du Moulin de la Galette, which is in the Musée d’Orsay and Toulouse-Lautrec’s Moulin de la Galette are among some of the most well-known paintings depicting Paris in the era of the …read more

This Is Paris To Me

This Is Paris To Me

I recently sent one of my poems (not this one) to be included in the Jack Kerouac exhibit that will be taking place on the 23rd of September in Paris at the Cabaret Pirate in front of the BNF (Bibliothèque Nationale de France), which got me to thinking….  How could I have not seen that my poem, This Is Paris To Me, fits in perfectly with my blog!

Strolling down the Champs Elysées.
Going into the Madeleine,
or riding the Bateaux Mouches on the Seine.
That is what you must do and see,
but this …read more

Le Bar à Vins du Cinéma des Cinéastes

Le Bar à Vins du Cinéma des Cinéastes

If you can keep a secret, I’ll tell you about a great place to have a drink, listen to music (sometimes), have dinner, see a film, or just chat with other movie lovers, filmmakers, and sometimes celebrities. All this and at a price you can afford!
Le Bar à Vins du Cinéma des Cinéastes is located just off the Place de Clichy; not really a hot spot on the tourists’ “must see” lists, but a place that is always hopping both day and night. Tour buses pass by constantly on their way to and from Montmartre or the Moulin Rouge, but …read more

The Best Of Paris

The Best Of Paris

The Travel Channel at b5media has another theme day. Our mission:  write your best article on, or about, the best of something.  Well when you’re talking about Paris, trying to pick the best of anything is like asking a parent, “Which child do you love best?”
Impossible to answer, right?! As any well-adjusted parent will tell you, they “love all their children equally.” If push comes to shove, they might say one is better at sports, while another is better at music, but all in all, their children (in their eyes) are the greatest!  Who’s to argue?!
Well this assignment is very similar. Can you …read more
