The Paris Traveler

 Well, finding Paris in New York is much easier than I thought–especially if you take your search to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Today, I took an incredibly long cab ride from my hotel in SoHo to the museum–clearly I was being ripped off as the ride home took a mere 10 minutes.  The rest of the day made up for all that.

 The Paris Traveler, that would be me, Kim, finds herself in New York.  That is always a good thing, not as good as being in Paris, but I have decided that since I need to be here I am going to seek out all things French:  restaurants, cafés and shopping and report my findings so in the event that you find yourself here, you too can seek out Paris without needing a passport.

When you think about the recent divorce between French President Sarkozy and the former First Lady, things were definitely far from cosy, to say the least! What’s interesting, however, is the way the French perceive this marital seperation and the way the American public would react if an American president were to divorce his wife after only several months in office.

If you carry on a love affair with chocolate, then I’ve got a rendez-vous for you! The 13th annual Salon du Chocolat will take place starting in Paris, then New York, Moscow, Beijing, and ending in Tokyo. (Hmm!  Did I disappoint some of you who clicked on here?!)
Not if you’re a chocolate lover! The Salon du Chocolat de Paris is from the 19th until the 22nd of October at the Porte de Versailles. 130 of some of the best chocolate makers from around the world, with more than 400 participants will be showing off their goods at this year’s affair! The Prêt-à-Porter (Ready To Wear) Spring/Summer 2008 collection will soon be hitting the runways here in Paris between September 29 to October 7. I’ve had several friends of mine who have taken to the catwalk through the years, showing off the latest designs and fashions and it’s always been an interesting time filled with excitement! For me, that is! (I especially love the ones at the Carrousel du Louvre.) For them, however, it’s a crazy hectic time that is, more often than not, nervewracking!

A few days ago I received an e-mail from Arnaud Contreras and Alain Dister about their homage to the American writer, Jack Kerouac, who coined the term, “Beat Generation”. I was asked if I wanted to contribute something (a poem, a drawing, a song, etc.) to participate in this exhibit entitled, Memory Babe, A Tribute to Jack Kerouac. This is a celebration of the 50th year of Kerouac’s best known work: “On the Road“. The exhibit will take place on September 23, 2007 in Paris at the Cabaret Pirate in front of the BNF (Bibliothèque Nationale de France).

Antoine Daguin could be modeling down the runway in all the fashion shows here in Paris if he wanted to (and he occasionally does), but his real passion is in designing men’s fashion. If other designers are as creative as Antoine, then we have nothing to worry about! Fashion is still alive and well in Paris! No surprise that this very “in style” guy has so much talent, he’s surrounded by it. His father who’s retired was a well-known journalist and his mother is a sought after film editor.
