The Paris Traveler

Welcome Back!

by Kim on December 15th, 2007

Hi and welcome back to The Paris Traveler.  My name is Kim and it is my absolute pleasure to be taking over this blog of anything and everything that has to do with, in my estimation, the most fabulous city in the world.  It is a nasty job, but someone has to do it!  First and foremost,  I would like to acknowledge the woman who started this blog, Lynn Rodriguez, and wish her the best in her new endeavors.  We have not met, but I have gone through her archived entries and found that we share similar passions for what this beautiful city has to offer.  In moving forward, you will get a taste of things through different eyes.   Cooking classes, concerts, restaurants, exhibits–they will all be discussed, but will come from someone who has gone to different classes, eaten at different restaurants and been to different concerts and exhibits.  My passion for Paris runs deep–I would lay in my bed when I was seven, look out my window in suburban Chicago and think the moon I saw shining down on me was also shining down on the Eiffel Tower at that very moment. (I don’t think time zones had shown up in my second grade curriculum yet!)  Many years later the Eiffel Tower is still a source of wonderment for me.  Living a block away from it and taking my daily power walks around the Champ de Mars,  I am moved by its magnificence.  It has become my backyard, picnics and sun-tanning are what my family go there for now.  And to watch the whole world be as dazzled by this monument as we are.  I hope you accompany me as often as you can on this journey around the city.  Put on your comfiest pair of shoes and let’s be as Edmund White suggests:  a flaneur, “a stroller, a loiterer, someone who ambles through a city without apparent purpose….in search of adventure”.  If you join me on this adventure, I promise there will be stops along the way for a glass of Bordeaux or a cafe noisette, as that is the true Parisian way.  Look for postings soon and we can become The Paris Traveler together!
